Roundtable Discussion Regarding Issues Arising with “Donor Advised Funds” (and which may also be issues with private foundations)

On Demand. Originally presented on April 8, 2024.

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) while relatively new on the charity scene, have become a wildly popular form of philanthropy.  Surprising to many, DAFs do not describe a single structure.  Significant variations exist as do issues, some of which will become apparent only after the lifetime of the donor.  CRA now requires charities to report if they have DAFs in the revised T3010 charity return. We will discuss the various forms of DAFs from those found in community foundations to financial services institutions to private foundations and some of the issues that arise in each of these kinds of charities.

SPEAKER

Kathy Hawkesworth (Counsel/Philanthropy Advisor, Edmonton Community Foundation)
