Notice of Meeting - Civil Litigation Section (South)

May 30, 2017 @ 12:00 Noon

Canadian Bar Association
710, 777 - 8 Avenue SW
Calgary AB

Speakers:
Naomi Loewith, Investment Manager and Legal Counsel, Bentham IMF
Kate R. Simpson, National Director of Knowledge Management, Bennett Jones LLP

Topic: "Legal Innovation – Valuable Tools and Recent Legal Developments to Free Up and Focus Your Time"
Overview: Legal innovation is often discussed as though lawyers’ services will be innovated, dislocated and “creatively destroyed” out of existence. In reality, new, innovative tools are available to help you practice smartly, attract new clients, and do more of what you love. Kate Simpson, National Director of Knowledge Management with Bennett Jones LLP, will discuss technologies that help litigation lawyers do what they are best at, focusing on the parts of being a lawyer that are the most exciting. Naomi Loewith, Investment Manager and Legal Counsel, Bentham IMF, will talk about the growth of litigation funding for complex commercial claims, which enables litigators to attract new clients, properly resource an action, and get on their feet more often.

Kate and Naomi will leave time for questions and discussion about where they see resistance to these trends and where they see exciting growth potential.
