SYNOPSIS
The National Study on Wellness in the Legal Profession in Canada validated what many know to be true: lawyers in Canada face health challenges due to the structure of our profession. Following a brief review of the Report, Ms. Simmons will highlight recommendations to improve the circumstances in our profession.
ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKERS
About Kerry Simmons, K.C.
Kerry is the Executive Director of the CBA BC Branch. As a lawyer in private practice until 2018, Kerry assisted clients with family and civil litigation, witnessing their experiences and those of lawyers in private practice. A keen volunteer in CBABC from 2000-2018, Kerry contributed to CBA’s advocacy and member services, and served as Branch President in 2012-13, and National President in 2017-18. Her additional areas of interest include public education, reconciliation with indigenous peoples, inclusion and diversity, and the protection and promotion of children in healthy, positive environments.
ACKNOWLEDGING FIRST NATIONS TERRITORIES
This recording is hosted by CBABC, which is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam First Nations. We encourage our members to explore the rich history and knowledge of Indigenous people, and to continue learning about their experience in Canada, past and present.
