Synopsis

Karissa Kelln, St.John McCloskey and Sam Adkins present on the limited partnership structure preferred for Indigenous economic development. They discuss aspects of First Nations taxation and practical considerations for managing First Nations energy projects, including a review of BC Hydro’s Call for Power.

Speaker Bio's

Karissa Kelln is a senior associate practicing with Miller Titerle + Company’s Indigenous Law Group. Karissa’s legal practice involves working with Indigenous clients to further empower their communities by assisting with business entity formation, partnerships, buying or selling businesses, board and band governance, Crown / Indigenous negotiations, sustainable resource development, and land leasing and development.

St.John McCloskey is a tax lawyer at Clark Wilson LLP. He has an extensive experience in various aspects of tax and administrative law. His practice includes advising on indirect taxes including GST, PST, and various land taxes.

Sam Adkins is a partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP primarily serving clients in the resource sector, with a strong focus on Indigenous and project development matters. His practice is national in scope, acting for clients across Canada on a wide range of Indigenous law issues, including consultation, negotiation and the regulatory process.
