Synopsis
FTI Consulting will provide an overview of this new, rapidly changing industry in Canada and the US, focusing on valuation insights, investment prospects, and the pitfalls that market participants should look out for.  What is driving the rapidly increasing company share prices and is there a risk of over-valuation?  This presentation will be informative to those in all areas of law - including insolvency, corporate and litigation – which will experience an influx Cannabis-related engagements as the industry continues to grow.


Speaker Profile
Natalie Quinn is a Senior Director in the Economic and Financial Consulting practice of FTI Consulting and is based in Vancouver, Canada.

A Chartered Accountant for more than 19 years, Ms. Quinn has experience in forensic accounting, corporate restructuring and as an investigating accountant. She began her career in corporate restructuring at KPMG and then specialised in the forensic accounting field from 2006 at McGrathNicol.

Ms. Quinn has been involved in a broad range of forensic engagements including dispute consulting, class action litigation, international arbitration, loss of profit claims, quantification of economic loss and valuations. She has also undertaken numerous investigations involving corruption, employee misconduct, fraud, misappropriation of assets and other forms of inappropriate behaviour in business.

Throughout her career, Ms. Quinn has assisted many large corporates such as Asahi, Coles, Theiss, Telstra and Qantas, and on matters involving regulators such as the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, and the Australia Taxation Office. High profile matters include the Timbercorp class action, Amcor/Visy class action, and the Black Saturday bushfire class action.

Ms. Quinn holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Monash University and a Graduate Certificate in Business Forensics from the University of Melbourne.


Elaine Carey is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and splits her time between Los Angeles and the Bay area. She has served as an advisor and problem solver to senior executives of Fortune 100 corporations and law firms for more than 25 years, overseeing clients’ most complex and sensitive problems around the globe involving integrity, political, security and reputational risks. Ms. Carey co-leads FTI Consulting’s Cannabis practice.

Ms. Carey served as National Director of Investigations. Ms. Carey led all investigative work in North America for Control Risks for more than 11 years including due diligence, fraud, business intelligence, FCPA compliance, anti-corruption programs, litigation support, anti-money laundering reviews and investigations, asset-tracing and supply chain issues for corporations and law firms.

Prior to joining Control Risks, Ms. Carey was a Director with PricewaterhouseCoopers Investigations in Los Angeles. She managed a broad range of complex matters including anti-corruption investigations in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, including a major apparel sweatshop investigation in Asia, a major internal bank fraud in the Middle East and massive corruption in a Fortune 100 food manufacturer’s Latin American subsidiary. Ms. Carey also served as Managing Director for Kroll Associates in Southern California, where she managed firm wide operations in Southern California.
