Synopsis
We will have a distinguinshed panel of guests speak to us about the Rohingya crises in Myanmar and Bangladesh, in terms of its history, their personal experiences of it, the current situation and what is needed to both support refugees in Bangladesh and other states and address the atrocities and root causes.
Speaker Bio
Ralph Keefer will share his views as he was called upon by to interview a hundred plus refugees and to contribute to a comprehensive 2018 report on the crisis by the Public International Law Policy Group (PILPG), entitled "Documenting Atronicy Crimes Committed Against the Rohingya in Myanmar's Rakhine State" and available at: https://bit.ly/2HKhK1x.
Yasmin Ullah is a Ronhingya activist for human rights and is studying political science in Vancouver. and will share her personal and professional perspective on this crisis. In late 2018, she gave testimony and statements on her own behalf and on behalf of the Network she leads before the House of Commons' Subcommittee on International Human Rights and the Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights.
Catherine Morris has been involved in the field of conflict resolution since 1983 and will share her efforts to draw attention to this crisis via her ongoing research and analysis on behalf of Lawyers' Rights Watch Canada (LRWC) and Peacemakers Trust, including a 2018 briefing note entitiled "Myanmar: International Law Duties of Neighbouring States to Refugees and Asylum Seekers", and available at: https://bit.ly/2EhyE3G.
