Synopsis

On January 31, 2019, in a 5-2 split decision, the majority of the SCC allowed the appeal of the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Orphan Well Association and held that the abandonment and reclamation obligations of a debtor are binding on its trustee in Orphan Well Association v. Grant Thornton Ltd., 2019 SCC 5.  Please join us to hear Lisa Hiebert discuss the tensions between secured lenders, industry and regulators, and the impacts of this important decision on British Columbia’s natural resource sector.
