Synopsis
Unbundling offers many advantages to both clients and lawyers. Many unbundling lawyers have found that this business model helps to improve cashflow, relieve stress, and provide services supporting access to justice. But can unbundling also earn you enough money to justify making these changes? Is it really true that unbundling can be “lucrative” and “profitable” in both a solo practice and a law firm setting?
This is the topic we will tackle at the next meeting of the CBABC Unbundled Legal Services Section on February 20th. We have assembled a skilled panel to describe their experiences with unbundling and to discuss what factors can improve not just cashflow but also profitability.
Speaker Profile
Kristine P. All received her BA from the University of British Columbia in 2002, and received her LLB from the University of British Columbia in 2006. Kristine was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2008. Her practice is focused primarily on family law, as well as wills and estates.
Prior to joining Aaron Gordon Daykin Nordlinger LLP, Kristine articled and practiced in criminal defence and general civil litigation, and then directed her practice to child protection, family law, and wills and estates with a boutique family firm in Vancouver. While many of her files are resolved outside of court, she has conducted trials in the British Columbia Provincial and Supreme Courts.
Kristine was an executive member of the Canadian Bar Association of British Columbia (Vancouver) Family Law Section for 2017-2018. She is a contributing author to publications including the Continuing Legal Education Society’s Annotated Family Practice for 2016 – 2018.
Michael Butterfield is a conflict resolution lawyer in Victoria, BC. He has over 16 years of experience as a lawyer. He currently writes and teaches in the areas of ADR, family law, and business practices.
Michael has successfully resolved cases throughout British Columbia and the Yukon. He is an accredited Parenting Co-Ordinator in BC. He uses his 16 years of experience to help high conflict parents work together for the good of their children.
Michael is also accredited as a Civil Mediator through MediateBC and Arbitration. He practices in the areas of contract, construction, and personal injury mediation. Michael mainly focuses on resolving conflicts without the need and expense of court proceedings.
Laurel Dietz is an experienced family lawyer and has been practicing law since 2011. She is committed to providing affordable legal solutions to family law clients through Alinea Legal Coaching, which is owned and operated by Ms. Dietz.
Alinea Legal Coaching is dedicated to providing tailored, affordable legal services to people handling their own family legal matter. They empower clients by taking the mystery out of family law and the legal process while allowing them to maintain control of their family law matter [and allowing them to maintain control of how much they spend on legal services]. They help clients to more effectively manage their family legal matter by providing legal advice, consultation, coaching, drafting and review services.
Alinea Legal Coaching is based on Vancouver Island with offices in Victoria and Duncan.
