Behind the Eight Ball or Ahead of the Curve?
Trends and emerging issues in administrative, labour/employment and privacy/access law

November 26-27, 2010
Westin Ottawa
Ottawa, Ont.

The annual conference organized by the National Administrative Law and Labour and Employment Law Sections is this year joined by the National Privacy and Access Law Section, with The Hon. Louise Charron as keynote speaker.

The sessions open with the much anticipated cross country case law update by David Jones, Q.C., co-author of Principles of Administrative Law. He is joined by Prof. Michael Geist, a leading scholar in privacy and technology law, and Malcolm Boyle, a prominent labour and employment law practitioner.

You won't want to miss our panel on public inquiries with The Hon. Guy Cournoyer, of the Quebec Superior Court, who acted as special counsel to the Gomery Commission and the Commission of Inquiry on the Sûreté du Québec (Poitras Commission), Paul Cavalluzzo, lead counsel in both the Maher Arar and Walkerton inquiries and Art Vertlieb QC who was counsel in the Briadwood Inquiry and is now counsel in the Pickton Inquiry.

Other topics include a review of emerging issues of tribunal independence, a discussion on the future of labour arbitration in Canada with senior counsel and arbitrators, as well as a session that will critically examine workplace violence and harassment legislation across the country.

The conference concludes with the popular "A View from the Bench", with The Hon. Marie-France Bich, of the Quebec Court of Appeal, The Hon. David Farrar, of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, and The Hon. Mary Saunders, of the British Columbia Court of Appeal, moderated by The Hon. Kevin W. Whitaker, of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

This conference is a must for any practitioner wanting to keep "ahead of the curve".
