CAVEAT DIRECTOR: Let the Director Beware! - Understanding and Managing the Exposure of Directors and Officers to Personal Liability for Corporate Environmental Risk

There has been an alarming trend towards holding directors and officers personally liable for contamination at or from company land. The cost of cleanup can run into millions, and the personal liability can arise whether or not the director or officer (or even their company) was at fault. This presentation will help members understand and manage the risks involved, including discussing the availability of responsive D&O and Environmental Liability Insurance and the oversight of company owned properties.

Speakers:

Paul Manning is principal at Manning Environmental Law and an environmental law specialist
certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Rissa Revin is the Senior Vice President, Claims & Compliance and General Counsel for Munich
Reinsurance Company of Canada and Temple Insurance Company.

James Hartsorn is Principal and Senior Consultant with Golder Associates
