Youth homelessness in Canada is an issue that disproportionately affects LGBTQ youth.  According to the most recent City of Toronto Street Needs Assessment, one in five homeless youth identify as LGBTQ. Our panel of experts will discuss this issue from a legal and social perspective. What are the legal impediments that contribute to the issue of youth homelessness in Canada? Explore some of the solutions that are being considered, including family counseling and education, the recent opening of a purpose-built shelter in Vancouver, the City of Toronto’s commitment to fund a purpose-built emergency shelter, as well as the recent opening of a transitional housing shelter in Toronto.
