Class action cases are frequently associated with claims on behalf of shareholders, consumers or businesses in respect of public disclosure, product safety or anticompetitive pricing. Yet, class actions are also a powerful tool through which vulnerable members of society such as institutional abuse victims, members of Aboriginal communities, nursing home residents, and immigration detainees have recently asserted claims against the Crown and other societal institutions.
