The All Families Are Equal Act: Celebrating and Understanding the Legislative Changes

Mar. 1, 2017
Toronto ON

OBA Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Conference & Family LAW PROGRAM
5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

In December 2016, the All Families Are Equal Act (the “Act”), intended to provide equal treatment for all children regardless of how they were conceived, received royal assent. Amending 41 statutes, including most notably the Children’s Law Reform Act and Vital Statistics Act, the Act recognizes the various types of families in our society and streamlines processes for parents utilizing assisted reproduction and surrogacy. Join our expert panel to explore these changes and what they mean for your practice, including:

  • Redefining legal parentage
  • What you need to know about pre-conception agreements
  • How is parentage for posthumously conceived children determined, and what are the implications?
  • Birth registrations under the new regime
