Making Constitutional History: Constitutional Rights Litigation

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Canada's confederation and, thus, of its Constitution.

Throughout our history, the framework of our Constitution has been amended, and its nature has evolved.  Over the past century and a half, we have seen an increasing recognition, expansion and protection of rights and freedoms – including human rights, linguistic rights and indigenous rights.

So how do we make constitutional history in Canada? Lawyers have helped to shape the country’s constitutional history through constitutional and human rights litigation. Going forward, what are the key considerations for litigators, and how will the courts decide Canada's future constitutional cases?

The Constitutional and Human Rights Conference will examine these questions from a practical point of view. The speakers will explain how to litigate constitutional and human rights questions by providing advice on procedural considerations and specific, contextual examples.
