The program on Doing Business in Europe will provide an overview of key elements Canadian lawyers ought to know when advising clients that intend to or do business with and in Europe.

The speakers will focus on:

  • Access to European markets in the context of free trade agreements between Canada and the European Union and EFTA countries and of Brexit negotiations as well as some key regulations affecting the drafting of contracts, including agency and distribution agreements, and the transfer of personal data
  • Strategies to protect and enforce intellectual property rights in Europe, including patents, trademarks, copyright and trade secrets
  • Taxation in Europe, including value added taxation (VAT) on goods and services and tax treaties with Canada
