Synopsis
Patrice Newman of Cook Roberts LLP has a wide-ranging litigation practice, with concentration on estate disputes, involving challenging and defending wills, disinheritances, probate matters, incapacity issues and adult guardianship. She will share her knowledge in the area of Estate Litigtion and answer any questions that you may have.


Speaker Profile
Patrice Newman’s practice focuses on resolving civil disputes, either in the courtroom or by negotiation.

Patrice has a wide-ranging litigation practice, with concentration on estate disputes, involving challenging and defending wills, disinheritances, probate matters, incapacity issues and adult guardianship. In addition, Patrice also practices in the areas of ICBC claims (including brain injury claims), employment matters, and construction, real property, and contract disputes.

Patrice joined Cook Roberts as Associate Counsel in 2017, and has been practicing law in Victoria for 15 years. Although Patrice has extensive courtroom experience in the BC Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, she recognizes that most disputes are best resolved outside of court, either by way of negotiation, mediation, or arbitration.

Patrice has served on the executive of the Wills, Estates and Trusts section of the BC Canadian Bar Association, serving as its chair from 2011 to 2013 and holding other executive positions for the past 9 years. She presents at Provincial professional development conferences for her colleagues, sharing her depth of knowledge with respect to estate disputes and civil procedure. Patrice is also a mentor for younger lawyers, and volunteers time to assist UVic law students with their legal studies.
