Course Details: The last years have seen an increase in the numbers of persons involved in court actions who choose to represent themselves. As lawyers, we are more and more regularly called upon to deal with self-represented litigants many of whom do not understand the rules of procedure and who can, in many cases, cause misunderstandings, protracted proceedings, and additional expense for the represented party whose counsel and staff can spend countless hours dealing with the self-represented litigant and in ensuring that their dealings are fair. In this webinar you will learn why litigants represent themselves (you may be surprised at what you hear) and receive advice from experts who will help you:

• Understand your ethical and professional responsibilities when it comes to dealing with self-represented litigants
• Understand how to respond effectively to self-represented litigant’s (sometimes) inappropriate behaviour and unreasonable demands
• Find out how the judiciary communicates (and expects counsel to communicate) with self-represented litigants
• Learn how to get results for your client while maintaining your own professional and ethical reputation
• Learn how to minimize your client’s expense and stress (and your stress as well) when dealing with self-represented litigants
