But what do we do with our files when the matter is finished? What can we throw away? What should we keep? What should we not keep? What do we have to keep? What formats can we use for storage? And how long do we have to keep the things we’re going to keep?

Earlier this year, the LSNB adopted a new Guide to Retention and Destruction of Closed Client Files for Lawyers. David G. O’Brien KC served as one of the primary drafters of the new policy. He will present this session as an introductory guide to the new policy and the thinking behind it.
