(RECORDING)

The rule of law is one of the fundamental principles of justice at the heart of modern-day democracies. Over the past few years, events such as the war on Ukraine, the Ottawa convoy, and the overturning of Roe v. Wade have challenged the strength of our democratic institutions and human rights protections. One of the core contributors to these events has been the growing spread of misinformation and disinformation, particularly in relation to law and justice. In this session, speakers will explore the impacts of misinformation and disinformation on the administration of justice in Canada, as well as the role of independent legislative officers in fostering and maintaining trust in public institutions.

Chair: Candice A. Pollack, NB Health Council
Panelists:  Chantalle Briggs, Beresin & Parr LLP; Charles E. Murray, Office of The Ombudsman; Kimberly A. Poffenroth, Election New Brunswick; Lyle Skinner, Senate of Canada
