OBA Lawyers Read “Not Your Penance”

19 nov. 2020

A book reading with Rebecca Jaremko Bromwich, OBA Council Member and National Diversity and Inclusion Manager at Gowling WLG.

As an association that serves the whole lawyer, the OBA proudly creates space and opportunity for lawyers with shared interests to get together for positive interaction and camaraderie. We bring together diverse groups of lawyers for activities outside the bounds of the practice of law, and our book reading conversation circles are our latest venture.

Now is the perfect time to curl up with a good book and enjoy some safe and physically distant (i.e., virtual) social connection, and the OBA is making that easier than ever for its members through our upcoming book reading featuring author and Ottawa-based lawyer, Rebecca J. Bromwich. Rebecca is an OBA Council Member who is passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion. In her varied career, she has worked as a lawyer in litigation and law reform and has taught and researched in academia.

On November 19th, join your friends and colleagues from across the province for a fun social gathering with lively conversation as we discuss the book, Not Your Penancea novel that skillfully mixes legal narrative with compelling personal drama in a story about motherhood, love, and law.

We’ll listen as the author reads a passage from the book; we’ll enjoy a facilitated discussion about the book and some of the themes it raises; we’ll stimulate our legal minds in a refreshing new way; and, perhaps most importantly, have a little fun while we connect with one another.

OBA members enjoy an exclusive 30% discount off the price of the book by purchasing the book here and using discount code: MOTHERS.

Date: Thursday, November 19, 2020
Time: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm (ET)

The event is free.

Note: As part of OBA President Charlene Theodore’s Work that Works initiative, please also stay tuned for our upcoming Work that Works Book Club featuring good reads that will stimulate conversations about workplace issues and solutions.
