CBA SKILLED LAWYER SERIES 2018

Accounting Fundamentals for Lawyers

Accounting concepts often form a key part of corporate legal documents and play an important role in commercial and fraud litigation and insolvency matters. Lawyers who are knowledgeable about accounting concepts are able to understand the financial context in which their clients operate and speak the same language at the negotiating table or in the courtroom.

This webinar will set the stage for the Interpreting Financial Statements program by providing a high level review of some of the basic accounting principles, processes, and terminology that lawyers need to know when the conversation with clients turns to numbers.

Topics will include:

•  Why accounting is important for lawyers
•  Fundamental accounting principles and terminology
•  Overview of financial statements and notes
•  Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
•  Tax accounting
•  Financial fraud

This is the 1st webinar of the Interpreting Financial Statements program.
