Oral History Hearings: What to Expect
Presented by the CBA Alberta Aboriginal Law (South) Section
Presenting Indigenous perspective evidence (ie., oral history) in a legal setting can be daunting for both the Indigneous community witnesses and the legal counsel present. This presentation aims to provide information, guidance, and some small degree of comfort for those who are unsure of what to expect. Garrett Laffery and Shane Varjassy will share their experiences in interviewing hundreds of Elders and examining dozens of community Elder witnesses at Oral History Hearings held before the Specific Claims Tribunal, Federal Court, and Ontario Superior Court.
*Please note: This section meeting will not be recorded and there will be no presentation materials shared after the meeting.
