Professionalism on Trial: The Rise of Incivility in Law

Presented by the CBA Alberta Civil Litigation (North) Section

On Demand. Originally presented on Nov 4, 2025.

Join veteran litigator Craig Boyer in person for a heartfelt and timely conversation on the rising incivility in legal practice—and why it’s time to take the high road.

Drawing on decades of hearing and courtroom experience, Craig will explore how modeling respectful behavior, practicing emotional intelligence, and remembering our shared humanity can restore the integrity of our profession.

This session will also feature Marc Adler (joining remotely), Director of Programming with Alberta Lawyers’ Assistance Society and mental health advocate. Marc will share recent alarming statistics on the mental health challenges facing the profession and introduce the role of Assist —Alberta’s Lawyer Assistance Program and a vital resource for psychological counselling, peer support, and community-building programs for Alberta lawyers, students, and their families.

Together, Craig and Marc will offer practical tools and deeper insight into how we can rebuild a culture of compassion, professionalism, and mutual respect.
