Alberta’s policy on “agriculture first” / Electric Energy Land Use and Visual Assessment Regulation

Presented by the CBA Alberta Environmental, Energy & Resources (North) Section

On Demand. Originally presented on Dec 11, 2025.

On December 6, 2024, the Government of Alberta introduced the Electric Energy Land Use and Visual Assessment Regulation, which created new regulatory requirements for new power plant developments in the province. Join Terri-Lee Oleniuk, the Practice Group Leader of the Regulatory group of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP in Calgary, as we discuss Alberta’s policy on “agriculture first”  and the new rules introduced for renewable energy projects under the Electric Energy Land Use and Visual Assessment Regulation.

This event will explore the new planning rules that power plant developers must consider in project siting, the increased role that municipalities now play in the power plant development process and how the new rules will shape the province's renewable energy growth alongside other energy sources.
