Navigating Geopolitical Risk: Practical Guidance for In-House Counsel
Presented by the CBA Alberta In-House Lawyers (South) Section
On Demand. Originally presented on May 28, 2026.
Geopolitical risk is no longer a distant concern, it’s a day-to-day reality shaping business decisions and legal exposure. This Section meeting equips in-house counsel with practical insights on how global instability, sanctions regimes, export controls, and shifting regulations directly impact organizations, operations, compliance, employee travel, and much more. As governments and boards increasingly encourage diversification away from U.S. markets, in-house legal teams must also confront the heightened compliance and business integrity risks that often accompany growth in non U.S. jurisdictions.
The presenters will explore the growing responsibility of legal teams to safeguard employees abroad, anticipate risk, and respond to rapidly evolving geopolitical developments. Join us to better understand when geopolitical issues become compliance or governance challenge, and how legal teams can lead in identifying and mitigating these risks.
