
Recent Developments in Human Rights Law in Alberta
Presented by the CBA Alberta Labour & Employment Law (South) Section
Legal Counsel for the Alberta Human Rights Commission (“AHRC”), Office of the Director will discuss recent Alberta Human Rights Tribunal and Court decisions. Topics covered will include:
- Recent trends on general damages and other remedies awarded;
- Emerging case law on gender identity and expression discrimination;
- Recent developments on the duty to inquire;
- Dismissals for failure to accept a fair and reasonable settlement offer;
- Complaints involving frivolous or vexatious allegations and corresponding damages;
- Costs and other procedural mechanisms to deal with vexatious litigants; and
- Recent trends in judicial reviews and appeals of Tribunal decisions.
