This Section Meeting will discuss:

  • Benefits of mediation vs. litigation proceedings
  • Managing the difficulties of emotions in estate proceedings
  • Recommendations on handling self-represented parties
  • What materials should you use in a mediation and avoiding the “document dump” and the most efficient way to submit documents.
     

Now retired from the Court, Honourable Barbara Veldhuis practiced law throughout the province as defence counsel, provincial and federal crown prosecutor roles as well as served as a Judge on all three levels of Court.

Honourable Barbara Veldhuis has an Executive Certificate in Conflict Management, awarded by the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor and the Stitt Feld Handy Group in 2015. During almost 20 years of criminal practice, as counsel, she conducted thousands of negotiations to resolve criminal matters. During the past 16 years she has successfully conducted many judicial dispute resolutions in her role as a Judge. The Honourable Barbara Veldhuis has solid experience and expertise in assisting parties to craft resolutions to settle disputes and preserve relationships in an fair and efficient manner that will avoid lengthy and expensive litigation in the Court process.
