A thought-provoking evening as we discuss Creating a Seat at the Table, a book that offers a window into the lives of women who have faced—and overcome—the unique challenges of a career in law. Through a series of candid letters, these women share stories of resilience in the face of discrimination, courage in moments of doubt, and the determination to succeed in a field shaped by tradition.

Along with an inspiring foreword by the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, this book explores the diverse and deeply personal experiences of women in law. There is no single answer to what it means to be a woman in this field—yet common threads emerge like facing discrimination and unconscious bias, navigating the fear of failure and imposter syndrome, balancing the demands of career and family, and much more.

Attendees are encouraged to read the entire book; however, at the event, discussion will focus on the following three chapters that have corresponding podcast episodes of the Dear Beth…A Woman in Law Podcast, available on all major platforms (e.g. Spotify, Apple Podcasts):

  • It’s Never Too Late to Be Who You Might Have Been
  • Never Use Other Women for Kindling
  • Think (Much) Bigger

If you’re in the legal profession, passionate about gender equity, and love a powerful read, this event is for you. Come ready to share, reflect, and connect.
