Lawyers advising non-profit organizations that are not registered charities must be keenly aware of the legal and regulatory regime for non-profit organizations under the Income Tax Act. Robert Hayhoe provides a practical overview of the Canadian income tax rules applicable to non-profit organizations under paragraph 149(1)(l) of the Income Tax Act, including key qualification requirements, CRA’s evolving views of “profit”, and newly updated reporting requirements.
