Guy Giorno provides an overview of how federal and British Columbia lobbying legislation applies to charities and not-for-profit organizations. Topics will include regulated communications, registration responsibilities, exceptions, grants, when public appeals constitute federal lobbying, the overlap between PPDDAs and lobbying laws, enforcement, and best practices.
About the Speaker
Guy Giorno is widely recognized for his in-depth experience in lobbying laws and government ethics laws. He is co-author of the legal text Lobbying in Canada, former Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Law of Lobbying and Ethics Committee, former board member of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws, and leader of the Political Law practice in the Fasken Law firm.
His legal practice is concentrated on the laws that regulate lobbying, as well other laws pertaining to public-sector ethics, accountability and transparency. He routinely advises and represents organizations and corporations that deal with governments, as well as current and former public office holders and frequently testifies before parliamentary and legislative committees. He also serves as the appointed municipal integrity commissioner of 16 cities and other municipalities in Ontario.
