US immigration attorney, Kate Lopez Ley, and Canadian immigration lawyer, Susan Martyn, discuss key cross-border immigration issues faced by employers and workers today. Topics to be discussed include:
- Canadian registration requirements for entries of 30 days or more and how to satisfy this,
- Visitor entries and increased scrutiny of business visitor activities by US Customs and Border Patrol and Canada Border Services,
- Common US visa options for Canadians and potential pitfalls in this era of heightened adjudication standards and enforcement,
- Common work permit options for foreign nationals in Canada; and
- Hot topics in Canadian immigration including challenges obtaining permanent resident status, tracking and monitoring open work permit holders and uptick in enforcement and compliance activity.
