SYNOPSIS
The evolution of Reconciliation in British Columbia comes as a result of legal, political and economic changes on the rise. Member of the DRIPA co-development team and Heiltsuk-Tsimshian Nations and Kitasoo Xai'xais First Nation lawyer, Merle Alexander, KC, examines where the Reconciliation landscape is today and what implications to consider.
Review the impact of the proposed Building Canada Act, the future of UNDRIP implementation and the evolving relationship between Aboriginal title and fee simple ownership across the province.

About Merle Alexander, KC
Merle practices Indigenous resource law, empowering Nations through title rights affirmation, sustainable economic development and environmental conservation. As a member of the co-development team for the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) in B.C., a major component of Merle’s practice currently involves the ongoing legislative implementation of UNDRIP.
