The Access to Justice and Law Reform Institute has written a Discussion Paper with proposals to simplify probate and administration in Nova Scotia (available here). These propose reform to the rules on: security, passing accounts, renunciations, probate tax, and service.
We also propose new rules which would permit electronic witnessing of documents, encourage financial institutions to deal informally with small estates, and simplify the administration of multi-generational intestacies.
During this session, we plan on briefly walking participants through our proposals and getting their views on what works and what we’ve missed. This feedback is critical to shaping realistic, effective recommendations for law reform.
