He has been described by the Globe and Mail as “arguably the country’s premier judge” and by the Toronto Star as “one of the strongest hands on the court”. View our annual “Luminary Lunch” with one of Canada’s most respected advocates, the Honourable Ian Binnie. Mr. Binnie was only the third modern Justice appointed directly from the bar.

During his time on the country’s top Court, Mr. Binnie authored more than 170 opinions, among them many landmark cases in the areas of copyright, defamation and media law, freedom of expression under the Charter, privacy, patent interpretation and trademark law.
