Law Reform Approaches to Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence and Abuse

Jul. 16, 2020
Online

OBA Women Lawyers Forum PROGRAM | 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (EDT)

With social distancing measures in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, digital spaces have become a primary location for many people to maintain their personal and professional relationships. Our increased reliance on digital spaces necessitates a systemic response to technology-facilitated gender-based violence and abuse (TFGBVA) more than ever.

This panel will explore how Canadian law has addressed TFGBVA through civil remedies. Panelists will also discuss the upcoming research report from LEAF that explores the role digital platforms play in TFGBVA, and how such platforms might be held accountable or liable for such harms in Canadian law.

This session is co-hosted with the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF)’s Technology-Facilitated Violence Project.
