OBA Entertainment, Media & Communications Law PROGRAM | Original Program Date: November 28, 2022
An increasing proportion of our daily lives – both work and personal – takes place online. Individuals and corporations spend time, effort, and dollars to carefully cultivate their reputations on social media. As litigators this means more phone calls about defamation on social media platforms, as people and businesses are concerned about maintaining their online reputation and about freely expressing themselves in the digital town square.
Join the OBA’s Entertainment, Media and Communications Law and Civil Litigation Sections for a joint program providing key updates on defamation claims online. The lunch hour program will address recent case law developments – including around the interpretation of anti-SLAPP legislation, damages, and the liability of third-party intermediaries – and practical tips for assessing, bringing, and defending online defamation claims.
