OBA Law Practice Management PROGRAM | Original Program Date: March 28, 2023

The sentence, “If you want something done right, do it yourself”, is never uttered by efficient lawyers. Good delegation skills lead to timely, accurate and cost-efficient legal services and better work-life balance for the skilled delegator. In this program we will consider best practices for delegating to associates, assistants, students and paralegals. Since improper delegation can lead to malpractice claims and/ or contravention of the Law Society’s rules we will discuss the limits as to when, what and to whom you can delegate.

The panel will discuss the challenges of delegation in hybrid workplaces, what are the things that get in the way of effective delegation, and tips on what works and does not work depending on the delegatee.

This program will be of interest to any practitioner who wants to be skilled at how to delegate work without increasing their practice risk and building capacity in your team. Effective and responsible delegation leads to law firm efficiencies, better productivity, a confident and satisfied team and happy clients. A win-win all around.
