Defending Trans Rights: Legal Challenges to Alberta’s Gender-Affirming Treatment Ban

Aug. 26, 2025
Online

OBA Sexual and Gender Diversity Alliance and Law Society of Ontario PROGRAM
5:30 PM to 7:30 PM (ET)

In late 2024, Alberta passed three pieces of legislation impacting the rights of trans youth in the province. Bill 26, the first to come into effect, prohibits doctors from providing gender-affirming treatment to youth under 18. Egale Canada, Skipping Stone and five individuals initiated proceedings challenging the legislation in December. Hear from lawyers engaged in the litigation challenging these laws as they share valuable insights into the key arguments they are making and evidence mounted. Plus get on-the-ground perspectives directly from the founder of Skipping Stone on the impacts of this legislation on trans rights, the concerning wave of anti-trans rhetoric leading to rights rollback, and the health and wellbeing of trans individuals.
