In June 2026, the Safe Social Media Act (Bill C-34) was introduced in the House of Commons, aimed at combatting online harms, particularly online harms impacting youth. Queer youth are subjected to disproportionately high levels of bullying online. At the same time, online spaces can provide critical opportunities for connection, support and community that may not be found in the home or at school.

Join us to examine the proposed legislation’s impact on 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Our expert panel will explore whether the benefits of online engagement outweigh the associated risks for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, whether the proposed legislation is likely to achieve its objective of creating safer online environments, and how it may impact the freedom of expression and privacy rights of queer youth.

Following the panel discussion, join us for our annual SAGDA Winter Social to make new connections and reconnect with friends and colleagues.
