Topic:
"Diversity in the Law/How to Break Barriers."
In celebration of Black History Month, CBA Alberta members are invited to join our panel for a discussion on
diversity in the law and how to break barriers in your career.
Whether you identify as a black lawyer or not, reflecting on the following questions should shed light on the
importance of this discussion:
- How many black lawyers have you worked with in your career?
- How many black adjudicators/judges have presided over your legal matters?
- How many black classmates did you have in law school?
The lack of diverse representation in the legal profession, specifically in regard to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People
of Colour) lawyers, is a palpable reality in Alberta. Through highlighting the challenges the profession faces, both
tangible and intangible, we can help drive change to support more inclusion.
Learn from the insights and lived experiences of our esteemed panelists, whose leadership, advocacy work and
determination have broken barriers in their respective fields and jurisdiction(s) of practice.
