Synopsis
Andrew Beynon, Patti Wight, Amy Jo Scherman and Gregory Steves review the mechanics of the Framework Agreement, precedent setting court cases, and other practical issues associated with the implementation of First Nation land codes and land laws.
The Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management provides an option for escaping the colonial Indian Act lands system and exercising self-government authority over reserve lands. More than one hundred First Nations across Canada have enacted land codes and laws under the Framework Agreement to govern their reserve lands, natural resources, and the environment.
Territorial Acknowledgement
This event will be broadcast from the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueam First Nations.
