Virtual Appearances in the Time of COVID


Members of the CBA Judges Section executive are pleased to facilitate a discussion on tips to best handle virtual court appearances. This session will allow participants to discuss their experiences attending court virtually and ask the facilitators questions on how to make the best presentation to advocate for their clients in these extraordinary times.

Questions that will be addressed:

How to make virtual advocacy effective?

  • Hearing witnesses virtually
  • Managing documents in a virtual hearing
  • Questions and responses in a virtual hearing

 
If you are attending by video, how to best use the opportunity to “see” your judge?

  • Technical aspects of a successful virtual hearing
  • How to best maintain professionalism in virtual appearances
  • Virtual appellate advocacy

Justice Horst

Justice Horst was appointed to the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench Family Division in 2018. Prior to her appointment Justice Horst practiced with Legal Aid Manitoba in the areas of family and child protection law. Justice Horst is a past chair of the CBA Young Lawyers, past-CBA National Treasurer, past MBA President and is now vice chair of the CBA Judges Section.
