The 2017 Judges Day program on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 is now scheduled for a full day consisting of 4 individual lectures.

Social Media: featuring Dr. Thomas Keenan covering the dangers of the Internet for Judges also he will be covering aspects of his latest book “Technocreep: The Surrender of Privacy and the Capitalization of the Intimacy.”  He does regular technical and non-technical analysis in the field of Crimes of the Future and has collaborated with law enforcement, law firms, individuals and corporations on urgent issues such as identity theft, cyberstalking, information warfare and privacy issues.

CSIS: featuring Richard Fadden, former Director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service who served in that capacity from June 2009 to mid-May 2013.  He was also the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada.

Mr. Fadden made headlines in June 2010 by announcing the foreign countries were both performing industrial espionage against Canada and trying to influence Canadian politicians.  He went on to say that cabinet Ministers in two provinces, and several municipal politicians were influenced by a foreign government when making policy decisions.  Although no countries were named, the National Post, Globe and Mail, CBC, CTV, and several other Canadian media outlets have speculated that he was referring to China.

Chief Justice of Canada: The Rt Hon. Beverley McLachlin.

We are honoured that the Chief Justice has taken time of her busy schedule and vacation to once again deliver a lecture on the Role of a Judge in a time when the Role of law is being severely challenged in today’s society.

We have witnessed judges imprisoned, criticized and removed from office both in so-called democratic countries and in third world countries.

Try Judging: John Gann and his wife Julie will take us into a social studies conference where you will witness the Association’s programme to civic teachers.  You will participate in the actual presentation to appreciate and understand how the Try Judging education program is fulfilling our commitment to the independence of the judiciary.
