Harnessing the Power of Social Media for Feminist Advocacy & Connection

In a time when we cannot easily gather in person, social media has become an even more important tool. Instead of focusing on the negative impacts of screen time and social media scrolling, what if we focused on the positive? Through the lens of feminist advocacy as self-care, let’s discuss the power of using social media to stay connected and advocate for causes we care about during the pandemic (and after!).


Jennifer TaylorGrace Cleveland

Jennifer Taylor is a lawyer at Stewart McKelvey in Halifax. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge (Trinity Hall). Among other community activities, Jennifer is the Advocacy Committee Chair for the Canadian Bar Association – Nova Scotia Branch, an executive member of the Canadian Bar Association Women Lawyers Forum, Past Chair of the Halifax Dance Board of Directors, and a mentor with the Dalhousie Feminist Legal Association. She regularly writes about and comments on reproductive rights, and can be found on Twitter @jennlmtaylor.

Grace Cleveland is a lawyer practicing in the areas of estate planning, administration and litigation. She is proud to serve on the executives of the CBABC and CBA national Women Lawyers Forums and of Law Needs Feminism Because. During law school, she ran an award-winning law blog and organized UAlberta’s inaugural #LNFB photo campaign. She is a staunch advocate for feminist legal education reform and believes that social media holds exciting opportunities for innovation in and the democratization of legal education in Canada.
