New Alberta Legislation That has an Impact on Charities and Non-Profit Organizations
This will be a brief overview, discussion, and question and answer session on Alberta legislation affecting charities and non-profit organizations. The Freedom to Care Act provides individual volunteers with liability protection and allows organizations to apply for exemptions from certain government regulations. The Societies Act and the Companies Act that most non-profit organizations in Alberta incorporate under have been amended. The new Alberta Trustee Act will deal specifically with charitable and non-charitable purpose trusts in a way that may affect existing charities.
