Close Conflict: Using Online ADR in Condominium Dispute Resolution and Beyond
Presented by the CBA Alberta Alternative Dispute Resolution (South) Section
Alternative dispute resolution processes occurring online feels only natural in this day and age. It gets interesting when parties addressing conflict online are located in close proximity. Yet, Canada’s first two online tribunals both started with a focus on resolving condominium disputes that often involve parties who co-exist in community before, during and after their dispute.
This session will focus on the opportunities and challenges that exist in the area of condominium dispute resolution, including at Ontario’s Condominium Authority Tribunal. Our guest speaker, Marc Bhalla, will share his journey in a career using ADR to address condominium conflict that spans over two decades, and evolved from in-person to online.
While this session may be of particular interest to those interested in Alberta’s own condominium dispute resolution processes, we will explore the dynamics that emerge in online ADR in the condo context and the wider application of approaches to other dispute fields.
