Child-Centered and Child-Inclusive Mediation

Presented by the CBA Alberta Family Law (North) Section

As we all adapt to out-of-court processes and the increased focus on children’s views and interests, learn about options for including the child’s voice in mediation and judicial dispute resolution. Join Trish Hebert, of Hebert Law & Mediation, and retired Justice Jim Williams, formerly of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia (Family Division), for a discussion of their views and the options for making mediations (judicial-led and otherwise) child-centred or child-inclusive. The presentation will include practical tips on how to assist the mediator in resolving matters, judicial mediations, and how to make them child-centred or include the child’s views. It will also cover when it may be appropriate to use child-centred vs child-inclusive mediation and what the process for those options might be.
