Municipal Recovery After an Emergency
Presented by the CBA Alberta Municipal Law (South) Section
Chris Davis worked as legal counsel for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Fort McMurray between 2019 and 2025. During that time, while he missed the 2016 “Beast” wildfire, he experienced a downtown flood in 2020 and multiple regional wildfires in mostly rural parts of the specialized municipality. Oh, and there was a COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown for 2 years during this time. He will reflect on some of his observations regarding organizational challenges, emergency management protocols and other related subjects.
