
Indigenous Law: Year in Review
Presented by the CBA Alberta Aboriginal Law (South) Section
A review of the most notable legal developments in Indigenous law in 2025, including pressing developments regarding Aboriginal Title and the intersection of Aboriginal title and private property rights with respect to Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation, Haida Gwaii Agreement, Wolastoqey Nations, Gitxaala, and Cowichan Tribes; and development of a body of precedent regarding the duty to consult and the honour of the Crown in Innus de Uashat et de Mani-Utenam, Ross River Dena Council, Mikisew Cree First Nation and Kebaowek First Nation; with a look forward at what is to come in 2026.
