Advocacy that Fits the Forum: One Administrative Adjudicator turned Judge’s Observations on Effective Advocacy in Different Contexts

Presented by the CBA Alberta Administrative Law (North) Section

Before Justice Oviatt was appointed to the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, she was the Chief of the Commission and Tribunals at the Alberta Human Rights Commission, where she published over 160 decisions. Before that, she practiced as a labour arbitrator, adjudicating contractual and commercial disputes. She has also served as a decision-maker for other regulatory bodies. All of which is to say: she has been the target audience for a lot of advocacy, in a wide variety of contexts. Justice Oviatt will share her insights about what remains effective across all forums, and where advocates may do well to adjust their advocacy to the forum at hand. This meeting will be in person only.
